Our Story: From Paper to Purpose

In the bustling alleys of Agra, in the year 1952, a young entrepreneur named Mr. Suraj Bhan Agarwal opened a small paper trading firm. His dream was to trade quality paper, including paper sourced for exports. At that time, Indian paper mills often produced inconsistent quality, making the business tricky. But Mr. Suraj Bhan had a sharp eye—and an even sharper mind.

Instead of giving up on unsellable paper, he saw opportunity where others saw waste. He noticed a high demand for paper envelopes, yet only a handful of manufacturers in the country. So whenever he came across low-quality paper that wouldn’t sell, he began converting it into envelopes. To his surprise, the envelopes sold out even before they were fully manufactured. This moment changed everything.

He realized envelope manufacturing wasn’t just a backup plan—it was the future. With that realization, he shifted focus, stepped away from paper trading, and laid the groundwork for something bigger. The business was renamed Babulal Narayan Das Papers, marking the beginning of a new chapter.

By 1966, his son Mr. Ramnath Agarwal, a bright engineering graduate from NIT Durgapur, joined the business. Ramnath brought a new vision—he wanted to modernize the envelope industry. Back then, envelope making was mostly done by hand. But with his engineering background, he brought in semi-automatic cutting machines and even imported a David Carlo envelope-making machine from England—one of the first of its kind in India.

To fund the setup, he brought in his three brothers as partners. Business boomed. Orders poured in from across India—and even from overseas. Suraj Bhan’s idea had blossomed into a thriving enterprise. But fate took an unexpected turn.

In 1974, Mr. Suraj Bhan passed away, and soon after, family disputes broke the partnership apart. The once-thriving business slowly faded away, nearly lost to time.
Yet Ramnath wasn’t ready to let go.

He salvaged what he could and, with quiet determination, restarted the business from scratch. In 1981, the name Suraj Bhan & Sons was officially registered—an ode to his late father and a fresh beginning.

The company began again, humbly but steadily. Then, in 1990, another chapter began when Mr. Sanjay Agarwal, Ramnath’s son, joined the business. With fresh energy and a deep respect for legacy, he expanded sales across India, introduced customized envelopes, and revived paper trading.

After Ramnath’s passing in 2016, the torch was passed once more—this time to Mr. Saksham Agarwal, the third-generation entrepreneur. Saksham carried forward the family’s entrepreneurial spirit with a modern twist: he brought in new automation, tapped into export markets, and expanded the vision beyond Indian borders.

Today, Suraj Bhan & Sons stands not just as a business, but as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and legacy—three generations strong.
